Steps to Obtain License

Step 1:  ELIGIBLITY to apply for a Real Estate Salesperson License:
You must be a citizen of the United States or a lawfully admitted alien, eighteen (18) years of age or older and a legal resident of Texas.
 
Step  2:  EDUCATION
Take the 4 mandatory courses from Arlington Board of REALTORS®
Principles I (30-hours), Principles II  (30-hours), Law of Contracts  (30-hours)
Law of Agency  (30-hours),  and Elective course(s) as needed.
If you have college credit (6 semester hours in basic study or 2 basic college courses) you will need  to take from the Arlington Board of REALTORS® one (1)  30-hour elective course.
If you do not have any college credit, you will need to take from the Arlington Board of REALTORS® three (3) 30-hour elective courses.
 
Step 3:  EVALUATION OF EDUCATION
Submit the form:  Request for Evaluation of Education Documents
Submit a copy of the certificates you have obtained by completing the courses at the Arlington Board of REALTORS®.
Submit a copy of your college transcript, if applicable.
Submit a fee of $20, non-refundable.  This fee is good for one (1) year.
Submit all of the above to the Texas Real Estate Commission.
Please allow ten (10) business days for processing. 
Once you have met the education requirements, the Texas Real Estate Commission will send you a letter attesting to satisfying all the education requirements.
 
Step 4:  FILING YOUR APPLICATION
 Once you receive your letter from the Commission that your education has been satisfied, you may file online for the Application of Inactive Salesperson License .  Apply and pay for your Inactive Salesperson License online, this will speed up your application process considerably.
 
Step 5:  TAKE THE EXAM PREP CLASS AT THE ARLINGTON BOARD OF REALTORS® 
This course will help you in achieving your goal as a Licensed Salesperson.  Be sure to take this class before you attempt to take the Real Estate Licensing Exam.
 
Step 6:  EXAMINATION INFORMATION
Once your application has been received, processed and accepted, you will receive notification that you may obtain a copy of the Candidate Information Brochure (CIB)
Download the CIB from the PSI website at  http://www.psiexams.com
PSI is the testing service company which administers the Texas Real Estate Licensing Exam in the following cities:  Dallas, Arlington, and Fort Worth. Schedule and pass your exam with PSI within six (6) months from the date the application is filed with the commission office.
 
Step 7:  SPONSORING BROKER
Before you can practice as a licensed salesperson you must arrange for a Texas Real Estate Broker holding an active license to sponsor you as a salesperson. Fill out the Salesperson Sponsorship Form and file this with the Texas Real Estate Commission.
